Finally, the next long bike ride of the season is coming up at the end of October, and we’d like to get a sense of who all would like to participate so teams can start to register in the next week or two. This is the Great Pumpkin Ride, which takes place in Warranton, Virginia on October 28. The ride is known for its delicious pumpkin-themed food at the rest stops (including a brewery where you can enjoy pumpkin beer), as well as many riders dressing up in honor of Halloween. As with other long rides we advertise on this email list, captains can ride for free, so the registration fee for one tandem will cover both riders. The Alexandria Tuesday Night Tandems crew also sends a delegation to this ride every year, so it’s a good chance for all of the blind and visually impaired tandem cyclists in the area to get together. There are 24, 49 and 64-mile routes available on this ride, and the longer routes are somewhat hilly. The ride start is also over an hour from DC, so it’s a full-day commitment, but always a lot of fun. If you’re interested in riding, please email mwaba.inc and let us know, as the price goes up on October 8, and the ride also tends to sell out, so we’d like to get pairs registered as soon as possible.
If you are new to our events, please sign the waiver at the link provided.
