Good evening, MWABA!
There will be no Goalball Practice for the next two Saturdays.. We will resume practices on January 6, 2024.
Thank you to those of you who have paid your 2024 MWABA dues. Dues are $25.00 and cover your membership until December 31, 2024.
Annual dues help support all of the activities and events that we organize throughout the year: goalball, tandem cycling, yoga, kayaking, hiking, beep kickball, etc., as well as social gatherings and community outreach efforts. We plan to bring you even more exciting opportunities in the coming year!
Dues also cover your ability to request financial assistance for participation in other sporting activities, and the right to vote on and run for MWABA board positions.
Dues can be paid via Venmo, user name: @MWABADC (M W A B A D C) or Paypal, user name: treasurer
If you are unable to pay your annual membership dues, please contact mwaba.inc and we will work with you on a case by case basis.
Dues are requested to be paid by January 31, 2024.
MWABA will have elections for multiple openings on the Board of Directors for 2024. Board member terms last for three years. We request interested individuals to please review the board member qualifications and descriptions that are attached to this email.
If you are interested, please email your nomination to include the requested information by January 15, 2024 to mwaba.inc.
If you have any questions or need any more information please email MWABA.inc.
Our next tandem ride will be on Sunday, January 7th, we’re planning on meeting in Bethesda at 10 a.m. and riding on the Capital Crescent Trail and/or in Rock Creek Park. Please RSVP to mwaba.inc by January 3rd and we will send out the ride details on January 5th.
We received feedback in the member survey that people would like to do additional tandem rides. Feel free to email us and let us know when you would like to ride, and we’ll try to facilitate pairs or small group rides.
Additionally, we’re excited to share that a few of our members plan to participate in two big weeklong cycling and camping events this July — the Bon Ton Roulet in the Finger Lakes region of New York, and RAGBRAI, the ride across Iowa. Events like these are for very experienced cyclists and often require a lot of individual planning and cost, but we wanted to let everyone know we would be happy to help make connections and pair people up if you need help getting involved in big events like these. And, speaking of cycling and camping, we have begun the process of planning our own bike-camping trip for one or two nights next summer. Stay tuned!
Our next MWABA hike will take place on Sunday, January 21, departing from northern Virginia (meet-up location TBD, but likely a metro station on the orange/blue/silver lines). We’ll be traveling to Raven Rocks, located in Bluemont, VA. This is a challenging 5.1-mile out-and-back hike along the Appalachian Trail. The terrain will be rocky, including some scrambling, and an elevation gain of about 1,500 feet. But hikers will certainly be rewarded with stunning mountain and valley views. If you’re interested in joining us for this next adventure, please sign up using the link below. We could also use several volunteer drivers so that we are able to include everyone who is interested in joining us. If you are available to drive, please reach out to Qudsiya at qnaqui and let her know how many passengers you can accommodate. We’re excited to see everyone out there!
