MWABA is planning a series of bike maintenance classes on Tuesday evenings. The remaining dates are March 25 and April 1. The March 25th class will be about brakes, and the April 1st class will be about shifting. All are invited, and we’ll have some sighted members help guide the hands-on experience for our blind and visually impaired participants. The classes will be led by Leah Fantle of the Upshift Workshop. The classes will start at 6:30 PM at the R.E.I. flagship location in D.C., at 201 M Street Northeast. Sign up here for as many as you’d like to attend: https://forms.gle/hWozkHaNv6E3UUZW7
Save the date and spread the word! We’re holding our next tandem captain training on 3/27 from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Eastern Market Metro. Sign up here if you’d like training on how to be a tandem captain, or if you’re an experienced stoker or captain who’d like to help train new captains: https://forms.gle/cFbjLSh7oecYWajB8

I am looking to interview individuals to learn more about their experience using public transit in D.C., as well as their thoughts on the WayMap app — even if they have not used it yet. My story is largely going to cover the app’s recent partnership with Metro, and I am seeking to learn more about how the blind community is anticipating the use of the app and highlight their experiences thus far with Metro’s accessibility. Individuals can reach out to me any time before March 20, by email (lucigarzie) or by phone (512-934-8883).
The Lighthouse Guild Scholarship Program supports academically accomplished students who are legally blind as they successfully transition to college and graduate school. Since 2005, Lighthouse Guild’s scholarship program has awarded over $2.8 million in merit-based scholarships to outstanding students from around the country. The award is unrestricted, so it can be used as needed for: tuition, room and board, books, supplies, or travel. If you have a record of strong academic accomplishment and merit, apply for a Lighthouse Guild scholarship and take another step toward the advanced education you deserve. The deadline to apply is March 31st. https://lighthouseguild.org/support-services/academic-and-career-services/scholarships/?mc_cid=d3eb348d90&mc_eid=380c06bc10
