MWABA newsletter: goalball, board elections, dues, tandem rides, camping trips

January 12, 2025

Hello MWABA,

Come to goalball on January 18, from 10 AM to 1 PM. Practice will be at the Columbia Heights community center, at 1480 Girard St. NW, D.C.

MWABA will have elections for multiple openings on the Board of Directors. Board member terms last for three years. We request interested individuals to please review the board member qualifications and descriptions that are attached to this email.

If you are interested, please email your nomination to include the requested information by January 20, 2025 to mwaba.inc. If you have any questions or need any more information please email mwaba.inc.

It’s time to renew your membership! Call for 2025 annual dues. Dues are $25.00 and cover your membership until December 31, 2025. Annual dues help support all of the activities and events that we organize throughout the year: goalball, tandem cycling, yoga, kayaking, hiking, beep kickball, etc. as well as social gatherings and community outreach efforts. We plan to bring you even more exciting opportunities in 2025! Dues also cover your ability to request financial assistance for participation in other sporting activities, and the right to vote on and run for MWABA board positions. Dues can be paid via Venmo, user name: @MWABADC or Paypal, user name: treasurer mwaba.inc and we will work with you on a case by case basis. Dues are requested to be paid by January 31, 2025.

Our February tandem rides will be on February 1st in Eastern Market at 9 a.m. and February 15th in Bethesda at 11 a.m. Sign up here: https://forms.gle/8saNKd27p2cZSgMUA. We’re also hoping to offer tandem bike maintenance classes hopefully starting on February 12th, stay tuned for more details!

Save the dates! MWABA is planning two camping trips in 2025, a bike camping trip from May 30th-June 1st at Lake Fairfax off the W&OD trail in Reston, and a car camping/hiking trip August 22nd-24th at the Big Meadows campground in Shenandoah National Park. Stay tuned for more information and the signup form, and let us know if you have any questions! If you’re interested in volunteering to help plan either of these trips, please reach out to Kevin and Shira at mwaba.inc. We’re looking for five to six volunteers per committee.

Thanks, and see you out there!
