MWABA Newsletter: Tandem Biking, Catalyst, Virtual Dance Performance, and Adapt and Thrive Leadership Course

October 20, 2024

Hello, MWABA!

Our next tandem ride is this Thursday at 6 p.m. in Bethesda. To join Thursday’s tandem ride, sign up here by Tuesday evening. You can use the same link to sign up for next week’s evening ride, which will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, the last evening ride of the season.

We’ll be tabling at the Cider Ride to recruit new members. It’s on Nov. 2 at Metrobar in Northeast D.C. near the Rhode Island Ave metro. Sign up here to help run our table.

Our tandem biking program is growing! We’re seeking volunteers to help us. If you’re interested in assisting with event programming, bike maintenance, or bike storage, or if you have other ideas, we want to hear from you! If you’d like to help out, please email mwaba.inc.

Listen to the story of our June bike camping adventure! Check out this episode of MWABA board member Qudsiya Naqui’s podcast, Down to the Struts.

Sign up here for the next catalyst climb on October 27th.

Register for the dance performance by Abilities dance Boston, a mixed Abilities dance company located in Boston, Massachusetts. It will be live streamed on November 8th and 9th and is entitled Tales from the Crips, which explore fairytales, disability, and space and is inspired by the book entitled Disfigured by Amanda Leduc. The author will be making an appearance at the performance as well. The live stream will be on November 8 and 9 and requires registration for virtual tickets. The sliding scale for virtual tickets is zero to $35 because the company believes that everyone should be able to have access to the performance regardless of their ability to pay. This performance will be described as well as ASL interpretation. The company is amazing.

Applications are now being accepted for the Adapt and Thrive Leadership Course. This is a Leadership Course that Integrated Dreams is organizing in collaboration with US Soccer and FIFA and that aims to empower people with disabilities living all across the US, in order to turn them into active leaders with the sports world and to connect them with major sport events taking place soon in America (in particular, the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the LA 2028 Olympics/Paralympics). The next edition will be taking place from December 4 to 11 (Atlanta) and MWABA would be delighted to empower the most possible blind/partially sighted people from Washington DC and nearby states and so they could benefit the most from this Leadership Course organized in collaboration with FIFA/US Soccer.

Below are the Official Press Release from US Soccer, the Official Page of the Program and the Link for the Application Form (Applications are Currently Open until November 1st and almost all costs are covered):

Thanks, and see you out there!
