Registration Now Open for Kayaking on August 11:

MWABA will be hosting our annual summer kayaking outing on Sunday, August 11 at a new location, Heritage Island. We are excited to partner with the Green Boats program for this year’s kayaking event! In addition to enjoying tandem kayaking out on the water, we will also help clean up the Anacostia River by collecting trash along the shoreline and in the water. Due to the number of available tandem kayaks, we will need to cap participation at 24 (12 blind kayakers and 12 sighted guides). We will be splitting into 2 groups, and 12 folks will go out together on the water at a time. We will be accepting participants on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please be sure to sign up soon at the link below. We also plan to do a potluck picnic at this event. All are welcome to come to the picnic to hang out, even if you are not selected to kayak. You can find additional information and register for this event at the link below: https://forms.gle/jiUajRbfboZHoM6d6

We still have three available slots for blind kayakers, and we’ll need 10 additional volunteers to be guides to ensure that everyone has a chance to get out on the water, so please sign up soon!

Note Updated Details for Blind Cricket!

Please save the date for an exciting opportunity to learn the game of cricket with the national blind cricket team of India! The event will take place on Wednesday, August 14 from 4pm to 7pm at Jefferson Field, located at 801 7th St. SW in DC. Members of the Indian blind cricket team will offer participants a short lesson on how to play blind cricket, after which we will join them in a demo cricket match to try out our new skills. Everyone will gather after the demo for food, drinks, and socializing with the team at a nearby restaurant. Don’t miss out on what promises to be an action-packed, fun-filled, cross-cultural event! Pre-registration is not required—just show up and be ready to play! We’re looking forward to seeing you there, and feel free to share about this event in your networks!
