Reminder to Sign-Up for Beeping Bake-Off Fundraiser/Social Gathering
On Sunday, July 28, MWABA will host our 2nd annual Beeping Bake-Off fundraiser as we also gather to celebrate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We will be meeting at the Jefferson Middle School Field (801 7th Street SW) from 1:00-3:00. For the bake-off portion, anyone can participate by baking a favorite dessert and enter the competition to win. For a minimum donation of $15, you can taste all of the baked goods and vote on the winner. Prizes will be awarded to our top 2 vote getters. We will also be playing a fun game of Beep Kickball at this event. Even if you don’t wish to participate in the bake-off, you can still come hang out, socialize, and try kickball. Donations from this fundraiser will support MWABA’s various programs. Sign up to participate and find additional details about the event at the link below:

Registration Now Open for Kayaking on August 11

MWABA will be hosting our annual summer kayaking outing on Sunday, August 11 at a new location, Heritage Island. We are excited to partner with the Green Boats program for this year’s kayaking event! In addition to enjoying tandem kayaking out on the water, we will also help clean up the Anacostia River by collecting trash along the shoreline and in the water. Due to the number of available tandem kayaks, we will need to cap participation at 24 (12 blind kayakers and 12 sighted guides). We will be splitting into 2 groups, and 12 folks will go out together on the water at a time. We will be accepting participants on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please be sure to sign up soon at the link below. We also plan to do a potluck picnic at this event. All are welcome to come to the picnic to hang out, even if you are not selected to kayak. You can find additional information and register for this event at the link below:

Please save the date for an exciting opportunity to learn the game of cricket with the national blind cricket team of India! The event will take place on Wednesday, August 14 from 5pm to 8pm. Members of the Indian blind cricket team will offer participants a short lesson on how to play blind cricket, after which we will join them in a demo cricket match to try out our new skills. Everyone will gather after the demo for food, drinks, and socializing with the team at a nearby restaurant. Don’t miss out on what promises to be an action-packed, fun-filled, cross-cultural event! Pre-registration is not required—just show up and be ready to play! More details on the location and other logistics to follow in the coming weeks. We’re looking forward to seeing you there, and feel free to share about this event in your networks!

We will be holding our final Goalball practice of the season this Saturday at the Columbia Heights Community Center, as our women’s and men’s teams prepare to compete at Goalball nationals in Fort Wayne Indiana on August 2 3 and 4.. We will be back in the gym sometime after Labor Day.

Thanks, and see you out there!
